Crappie Bite is hot Lake O’ the Pines Fishing Report January 2018

Lake O’ the Pines Fishing Report

The Crappie fishing is excellent on Lake O’ the Pines near Jefferson Texas. Multiple reports from fisherman on the lake confirm that lots ofLake O' the Pines fishing report fish are being caught and many fisherman are limiting out. Most fish are being caught in 25 to 35 water near the damn on the river channel. Minnows are the preferred bait but some fish are being caught on jigs as well.

Look for the river channels that are 35 to 40 feet deep then pull back to  25 to 30 foot on the submerged creek sides. I use a Lowrance 9TI with down and side imaging. You can see the fish moving through the area suspended at couple of different levels. Move your bait to to correct level and you should start catching fish. You can anchor or use your trolling motor to hold you on a spot. I prefer to anchor but the fish are moving through the area so a trolling motor or drift anchor are viable options.

The weather has been up and down this month with temperatures as low as 18 and as high as 60. It is vitally important to be prepared for these extremes. Last week a boat overturned and lives were lost. The lake can be deadly so be prepared. Wear a life jacket at all times, keep a blanket in your boat and  have a clear plan in case you run into trouble.

Bass are fair on crank baits and and jigs with blades. Catfish are fair on trot lines with cut bait and stink bait.

Water Temperature, 41 to 45 degrees

Water Clarity, Slightly Stained

Water Elevation, 9.23 inches below normal
